Arlington Bluebell Walk and Farm Trail

Everyone loves bluebells and now is the perfect time for a trip out of Meads to the Arlington Bluebell Walk and Farm Trail open until Sunday 13 May. What began in 1972 as a local fundraiser has developed into seven walks over three working farms.
The main walk is through Beatons Wood, classically sun dappled with carpets of white wood anemones and thousands of bluebells as Pete Goldsmith's fabulous photographs show.
If you want to try your hand, there is a photo competition for both adults and juniors with cash prizes and the chance to have your work on display at the Bluebell Barn and on their website.
Refreshments are available at the Barn and there are some animals for the little ones to pet. It all happens at:
Bates Green Farm
Tye Hill Road
BN26 6SH
Open from 10.00 to 5.00 every day.
£6.00 adults £5.50 Seniors £2.50 children. Family tickets £15.
They say that the weather will improve and the bluebells are at their best right now.Sounds like a perfect day out.
Follow the brown signs off the A22 and A27

Meads Affinity Card

The Meads Community Association launches its Affinity Scheme.

As members are aware, a cornerstone of the MCA's Placemaking strategy is to encourage members to shop in Meads Street to help ensure its commercial viability. In support of this, the MCA has launched an Affinity Scheme between our members and participating Meads traders.

All member households who have paid their 2018 subscription have received an Affinity Card which has been branded with both the new MCA logo and the new Meads Village logo. This reinforces our aim of building the Meads Village brand and spreading the word about this special place.

The card is exclusive to MCA members and we hope that it will achieve a 'win-win' outcome. Members will see that they are valued by being able to purchase goods and services and dine out locally at discounted prices. For their part, traders will build customer loyalty and repeat business.

Here is a list of participating traders with details of the discounts they are offering:

All Saints Chapel
10% discount on event booking fees which includes venue hire and food. Does not apply to drinks.

Artisvin Wine Merchants

The Silent Child

The silent child on bbc iplayer

The news that a British film won the 2018 Oscar for the best live action short film was made even more special when it emerged that actor and Meads resident Rachel Fielding played a major role.

The film, The Silent Child, is about Libby, a profoundly deaf four-year-old who struggles to communicate, and her transformation from angry isolated little girl to an outgoing and happy child. Rachel plays her mother Sue, who at first is wary of her daughter learning sign language. This was a particularly challenging role for Rachel as her late mother was a speech therapist both at Eastbourne DGH and at a special unit for children with hearing problems at Willingdon School.

Brought up in Eastbourne, Rachel studied drama at Sussex Downs College before joining the National Youth Theatre at just 16. Since then she has lived in London and Bristol but has moved back to Eastbourne, settling in Meads: ‘Because I wanted my boys to grow up near the countryside, the sea and the Downs.’ We couldn't put it better ourselves.

Welcome back Rachel and many congratulations. It’s great to have an Oscar winner in our community.

And we have just found out that The Silent Child will be screened on BBC One at 7.40pm on Friday 30 March.
